Houghton County Solid Waste Committee

 

Schedule of Committee Meetings 2019

The Meetings of the Solid Waste Committee for the County of Houghton will be held in the Conference Room on the fifth floor of the Houghton County Courthouse. All meetings will be at 3:00 pm.

In the event of changes of dates for meetings, or any Special Meeting, the change or other meeting date will be posted, and if necessary advertised.

NOTICE:

Cardboard recycling center now open.

A cardboard recycling operation was begun at the Houghton County Transfer Station this past January. Any individual or business that wish to recycle their cardboard may do so by bringing it to the recycling building located on the Transfer Station site at 17808 Erickson Drive, Atlantic Mine.

Acceptable Materials

  • Corrugated Cardboard

  • Boxes made of paperboard such as shoe, cereal, or detergent boxes

  • Brown grocery bags

  • Brown Kraft paper

Unacceptable Materials

  • NO Pizza Boxes

  • NO Styrofoam

  • NO Bottles/Plastic or Glass

  • NO Paper products such as newspapers, magazines, junk mail

  • NO Plastic or plastic bags

  • NO Grease or oil saturated materials

All cardboard must be free of food and should be broken down and flattened.

Individuals may drop off their cardboard for free. A $3 fee is required for large commercial drop-offs.

Method of Payment -- Cash or Check

All trucks containing building materials will be weighed.

  • Minimum Charge:
    $1.00 for 13-gallon bags
    $1.50 for 30-gallon bags
    $2.00 for bags over 30 gallons and all garbage cans
    $3.00 for large barrels

  • Household Garbage - Per Ton
    $ 80.00

  • Construction / Commercial / Any other Material- Per Ton (Large Demo jobs - Please call for pricing and drop-off schedule.)
    $ 90.00

  • Double Mattress/Box Spring (Each)
    $ 8.00

  • Single Mattress/Box Spring (Each)
    $ 4.00

  • Couch
    $ 8.00

  • Stuffed Chair
    $ 4.00

  • Stoves, Water Heaters, Dryers, Washers
    (Each)
    $ 10.00

  • Minimum Scale Fee
    $ 5.00

* Metal, cardboard recycling and oil collection center open all year round. Fees may apply.
