A Word About Houghton
County

Houghton County is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Bordered to the east and west by Lake Superior, and with over 900 miles of rivers and streams, 139 inland lakes and miles of motorized and non-motorized recreation trails, Houghton County is a year-round recreational playground.

Pursuant to Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order, the Houghton County Courthouse is CLOSED.

Various Courthouse functions will continue during this time period including court/law enforcement activities. Please call the numbers listed below or email to inquire about available services.

The deadline for individuals to pay delinquent property taxes to avoid foreclosure has been extended to Monday, June 29, 2020.

The Houghton County Transfer Station will remain open.
