Office Secretary and Veteran Service Officer

The Houghton County Veteran Service Office is seeking applications for a new, part time position of Office Secretary and Veteran Service Officer. This non-union position is for 20 to 29 hours per week with the ability to accrue paid time off, but no other benefits. Starting wage is $14 to $16 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Job duties include answering phone calls and emails, scheduling appointments, maintaining information in an office database system, scanning documents, coordinating Veteran travel on the Disabled American Veterans Van, and providing assistance with development of Veterans Administration claims. The individual selected for this position must successfully pass background checks in order to become accredited with the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers and Veterans Administration.
Preference will be given to honorably discharged Veterans due to their ability to become accredited with various Veteran Service Organizations. Applicants should be self-motivated, have experience operating office automation equipment (including scanners, printers, copiers and computers), have experience using Microsoft Office Suite products, and possess good time management and inter-personal skills. Full-Time Plumbing / Mechanical Inspector

Houghton County will be accepting applications for a full-time Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and be able to become registered with the State of Michigan, as required by Act 54 of 1986.

Qualifications include:

Mechanical Inspector Rule 43.
An applicant for registration as a provisional mechanical inspector shall have possessed a mechanical license for not less than 1 year in 3 or more categories 1, 2, 4, or 9 as defined in 1984 PA 192, MCL 338.971 to MCL 338.988 (the Forbes Mechanical Contractor's Act).

Plumbing Inspector Rule 46.
An applicant for registration as a provisional plumbing inspector shall have possessed a journey license for not less than 2 years or shall be licensed as a master plumber under the provisions of the State Plumbing Act, 2002 PA 733, MCL 338.3511 to 338.3569.
