County Administrator

The Houghton County Board of Commissioners is seeking candidates for the position of Houghton County Administrator.

The County Administrator reports to the County Board and is responsible for the development and management of the County budget and supervision of appointed departments heads including Building, Equalization, I.T., and Maintenance along with the County's Transfer Station and Marina.

The administrator oversees the County's employee benefit package and is responsible for development of county-wide policies such as employment and purchasing, and also for negotiating contracts with the County's four unions. The ideal candidate would have a bachelor's degree in business or public administration and at least five years of management experience.

Full-Time Plumbing / Mechanical Inspector

Houghton County will be accepting applications for a full-time Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and be able to become registered with the State of Michigan, as required by Act 54 of 1986.

Qualifications include:

Mechanical Inspector Rule 43.
An applicant for registration as a provisional mechanical inspector shall have possessed a mechanical license for not less than 1 year in 3 or more categories 1, 2, 4, or 9 as defined in 1984 PA 192, MCL 338.971 to MCL 338.988 (the Forbes Mechanical Contractor's Act).

Plumbing Inspector Rule 46.
An applicant for registration as a provisional plumbing inspector shall have possessed a journey license for not less than 2 years or shall be licensed as a master plumber under the provisions of the State Plumbing Act, 2002 PA 733, MCL 338.3511 to 338.3569.
