Veteran Service Officer-Part Time

The Houghton County Veterans Affairs Board is accepting applications for the position of a Part-Time Veteran Service Officer. Hourly wage is commensurate with experience and qualifications, starting at no less than $15.00 per hour. This position will start at 15 hours per week with the potential to increase to 25 hours per week. The position includes paid vacation days but does not include health insurance nor retirement benefits.
This county employee will work in a probationary status for six months, in which time she or he must pass a federal background check and successfully complete training to become accredited as recognized by the Veterans Administration.
The Veteran Service Officer works with multiple agencies and programs to provide outreach and services to Veterans. Drawing on an extensive knowledge of available resources, the Veteran Service Officer assists Veterans and dependents in applying for available programs and benefits. Service Officers have a compassionate understanding of the problems which confront Veterans, widows, widowers, and children. The County Veteran Service Officer applies specialized knowledge in the best way suited to the needs of every individual Veteran or other beneficiary who comes to the office for assistance.
Other job requirements include: A high level of experience utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; the ability to read and follow detailed instructions; strong interpersonal, analytical, and research skills. Military and/or Veteran Service Officer experience is not required but is desired.

Full-Time Plumbing / Mechanical Inspector

Houghton County will be accepting applications for a full-time Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and be able to become registered with the State of Michigan, as required by Act 54 of 1986.

Qualifications include:

Mechanical Inspector Rule 43.
An applicant for registration as a provisional mechanical inspector shall have possessed a mechanical license for not less than 1 year in 3 or more categories 1, 2, 4, or 9 as defined in 1984 PA 192, MCL 338.971 to MCL 338.988 (the Forbes Mechanical Contractor's Act).

Plumbing Inspector Rule 46.
An applicant for registration as a provisional plumbing inspector shall have possessed a journey license for not less than 2 years or shall be licensed as a master plumber under the provisions of the State Plumbing Act, 2002 PA 733, MCL 338.3511 to 338.3569.
