Houghton County was home to extensive mining
activities for over 100 years. The legacy of
that activity is numerous abandoned mine
shafts throughout the County, many of which
may be unknown and unmarked.
Should you encounter such a site, be
extremely careful, and report your findings
to the Houghton County Mining Inspector.
