Office Secretary and Veteran Service Officer

The Houghton County Veteran Service Office is seeking applications for a part time position of Office Secretary and Veteran Service Officer. This non-union position is for 20 to 29 hours per week with the ability to accrue paid time off, but no other benefits. Starting wage is $17 to $19 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Job duties include answering phone calls and emails, scheduling appointments, maintaining information in an office database system, scanning documents, coordinating Veteran travel on the Disabled American Veterans Van, and providing assistance with development of Veterans Administration claims. The individual selected for this position must successfully pass background checks in order to become accredited with the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers and Veterans Administration.

Preference will be given to honorably discharged Veterans. Applicants should be self-motivated, have experience operating office automation equipment (including scanners, printers, copiers and computers), have experience using Microsoft Office Suite products, and possess good time management and inter-personal skills. Houghton County Equalization Department – Senior Accounts Processor

The Equalization Department seeks a motivated and professional individual for the position of Senior Accounts Processor (T-6). This is a full-time union position in the Equalization Department. Duties include assisting customers and local/state officials with record card requests, mapping of legal descriptions including platted lots/rectangular survey descriptions/metes and bounds descriptions, and maintenance of databases and data entry using BS&A software. Also assists in printing tax bills, tax rolls, and change notices for local townships. Other tasks to be assigned at the discretion of the Equalization Director. Must have or be willing to obtain a Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) certificate within a reasonable amount of time after hire.

Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney

Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney--Houghton County


Duties:

The responsibilities of a Chief Assistant Prosecutor include: the analysis of warrant requests; conducting pretrial conferences, bench trials and jury trials; and any other duties as assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney. Caseload may include matters in probate and family court, and both misdemeanor and felony cases.


Requirements:

Must be licensed by the State Bar of Michigan. Applicants that have sat for the July 2021 Bar Exam are eligible to apply, but employment is conditioned upon passing the Bar and Character and Fitness.
