Houghton County Administrator

The Houghton County Board of Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Houghton County Administrator.

The County Administrator reports to and works closely with the County Board of Commission, and is responsible for the day to day operations for all County activities. The successful candidate will develop and manage the County budget, and work with state, federal and private sources including grant programs. The Administrator is the agent and point person for fund raising activities with the new Enduring Gifts program, for supervision of appointed departments and department heads, for working with the County Attorney for all things legal, for the Audit, and for negotiations and contracts with the County’s recognized bargaining units and agents. Responsible for the appointment and supervision of all non-elected department heads, serving as the chief purchasing agent, reviewing, negotiating, and executing vendor contracts, oversees the County’s employee benefit package, and manages the County’s property holdings. Working with the Airport Manager, the Marina Manager, and the Transfer Station Manager, the Administrator works to ensure the success of the three County enterprises. Responsible for the development, maintenance, and executing of IT plans, county buildings and grounds plans, and for working with architects, engineers, and contractors for projects approved by the Board on County properties.

The ideal candidate would have a bachelor’s degree or higher in business management or public administration, and at least 5-7 years of professional management experience and proven leadership. Salary is negotiable, and will be considered based on the candidate’s credentials and experience.

Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney

Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney--Houghton County


The responsibilities of a Chief Assistant Prosecutor include: the analysis of warrant requests; conducting pretrial conferences, bench trials and jury trials; and any other duties as assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney. Caseload may include matters in probate and family court, and both misdemeanor and felony cases.


Must be licensed by the State Bar of Michigan. Applicants that have sat for the July 2021 Bar Exam are eligible to apply, but employment is conditioned upon passing the Bar and Character and Fitness.

Full-Time Plumbing / Mechanical Inspector

Houghton County will be accepting applications for a full-time Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and be able to become registered with the State of Michigan, as required by Act 54 of 1986.

Qualifications include:

Mechanical Inspector Rule 43.
An applicant for registration as a provisional mechanical inspector shall have possessed a mechanical license for not less than 1 year in 3 or more categories 1, 2, 4, or 9 as defined in 1984 PA 192, MCL 338.971 to MCL 338.988 (the Forbes Mechanical Contractor's Act).

Plumbing Inspector Rule 46.
An applicant for registration as a provisional plumbing inspector shall have possessed a journey license for not less than 2 years or shall be licensed as a master plumber under the provisions of the State Plumbing Act, 2002 PA 733, MCL 338.3511 to 338.3569.
